#105: The 2024 PMM Holiday Reading List
The must-read product marketing books of the year
I’m dreaming of a white Christmas, and I travelled to Toronto to find one.
Back in my hometown, and I’m officially signing off for the remainder of the year. I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for unlimited gingerbread cookies and mimosas.
One of my favorite things to do over the holidays is curl up with a good book. If you’re anything like me, you love that too.
So, I wanted to leave you with one holiday gift: my 2024 reading list.
Whether you’re looking to catch up on reading over the holidays or add a new book to your TBR pile, here are my top product marketing books published this year.

2024 Reading List
Make It PunchyBy Emma Stratton When you’re writing copy that needs to cut through the noise, this book is your new best friend. Emma Stratton breaks down how to write with clarity while still delivering, you guessed it, a punch. Think of it as a masterclass in keeping it simple without losing impact. Bonus: You’ll start spotting (and fixing) fluffy messaging everywhere. |
This Is StrategyBy Seth Godin We all want to make better plans — whether it’s in life or at work. Seth Godin’s new book, This Is Strategy, will help you do just that. Less about rigid frameworks and more about mindset shifts, this one challenges you to approach problems with creativity and empathy. You’ll walk away inspired to think bigger and execute smarter. |
The Product-Led PlaybookBy Wes Bush A followup to his first book, Product-Led Growth, this new playbook introduces Wes’ simple system for scaling PLG. Packed with frameworks and strategies, The Product-Led Playbook shows you how to let your product do the heavy lifting while you craft compelling go-to-market campaigns that drive adoption and loyalty. Perfect for anyone looking to level up their PLG game. |
Backstage PassBy Harvey Lee Get a behind-the-scenes look at some of the most successful product launches of the decade (like the original Xbox). In Backstage Pass, Harvey shares the good, the bad, and the “what were we thinking?” moments of his career, with lessons you can apply to your next launch. Part case study, part how-to guide, part memoir, this book was one of my most entertaining reads of the year. |
Bonus Books
There are two books that almost everyone in my network were talking about this year, although neither were published in 2024. That said, they were referenced enough to get a special shoutout 👇🏻
The Mom Test
By Rob Fitzpatrick
Published in 2013, The Mom Test has, forgive the pun, stood the test of time. It’s premise is simple: your friends won’t tell if your idea is a good one, so you need to test it with real customers instead. This book breaks down where customer research goes wrong, and how to do it right.
Continuous Discovery Habits
By Teresa Torres
This one’s for the inbound-style PMMs who collaborate deeply with their product managers. In the book, Teresa provides a structured approach to continuous customer research, helping you answer questions like “am I making a product customers want” and “am I creating value for customers and the business”.
CAMPER ESSENTIALS
📚 Reading List: If you’re feeling introspective this holiday season, give Edition 53 of PMM Camp a read. I cover my personal annual review process and breakdown how I plan my life across 5 time horizons.
⚒️ Tools: Close out your year and plan for the next one with YearCompass. It’s a free booklet that helps you reflect on the past year and set goals for the future. This is my third year completing this activity, and it’s totally worth the time.
I’m taking a break next week, but will be back in your inboxes January 5.
Happy holidays 🎁
